Mary Kathlyn Vorse

Mary Kathlyn Vorse, 72, of Cheyenne WY, died at home on Dec. 25, 2019.

Ms. Vorse was born the youngest of three on March 6, 1947, in Lyons, Kansas to Bryce and Ellinor (Morris) Kaltenbach. She grew up in Plainville, Kansas with her two older siblings, Karen and Kent.

After she graduated from Plainville High School in 1965, Kathy moved to Emporia, Kansas to train to be a dental assistant. In 1967 she married Cpt. Wesley Hush, US Army(deceased), with whom she has one daughter. She worked as a dental assistant for many years before becoming an instructor, then director of dental assisting at Flint Hills Area Technical College in Emporia.

Kathy was married for 35 years to CPO Charles F. Vorse, US Navy (retired), who predeceased her in death in 2018. Kathy and Charlie volunteered at a local youth home and raised several foster children.

After obtaining a Bachelors degree in vocational education from Pittsburg State University, she worked as a job coach with KETCH (Kansas Elks Training Center for the Handicapped) until her retirement.

Kathy was a member of Twin Rivers Christian Church in Emporia before moving to Cheyenne to take care of her father, Bryce, who died in 2005.

She was a member of the Cheyenne chapter of the LAFRA and the Auxiliary of VFW 1881.

Her interests included poetry, dachshunds, sunflowers, and bargain-hunting.

She was much loved and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her dachshund; daughter, Kristin Hush; step-daughters, Melanie Vorse and Chanda Diekow; sister, Karen Liden; nephew, Jim Liden; and dear friend Don.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020 at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Reception following upstairs at VFW 1881.
