Longtime Cheyenne resident, Marilyn Yvonne Faircloth, died peacefully Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Cheyenne Life Care Center.
Marilyn was born in Pullman, WA, April 21, 1935 to Naomi and Edward W. Erwin
When Marilyn was a teenager, the family moved to Sheridan MT where she would later graduate high school. After graduating she moved to Cheyenne WY with her family.
One evening, Marilyn accompanied her friend to a local dance where she met a handsome young man by the name of Ben Faircloth. They were married on September 26, 1958.
Marilyn worked a long career with the Old Faithful Life Insurance Company. One of her young nieces at the time believed, and was thrilled that this meant her aunt was working in Yellowstone National Park! Marilyn was rather pleased with the poem her niece wrote later in life referencing her speculative employment at the iconic park!
Marilyn and Ben were longtime members of American Legion Post 6. She also bowled competitively in Cheyenne leagues for many years.
Many hometown rodeo teens will remember time spent with the Faircloth family. She often provided meals or a sleeping bag and even sometimes a little first aid!
She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the Dana Fuller Ross “Wagons West” series and more recently, C. J. Box’s “Joe Pickett” series. She also loved spending time with her family at their place up in the mountains, a fishing pole in one hand, a cold beer in the other!
Anyone who knew Marilyn, even during her final years, remembers a feisty, outspoken, strong woman with a sharp wit and healthy appetite for a good laugh.
Above all, Marilyn raised, deeply loved, and took great pride in her family.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, stepfather Vearl Crampton, brother Ed (Tucker)Erwin and stepson Randy Faircloth.
She is survived by her two children, Leslie (Jeremy) Hansen and Ed (Kim) Faircloth of Cheyenne, a brother Richard (Cleo) Erwin of Clermont FL, and stepson Benji Faircloth of Salt Lake City Utah. Also surviving are grand-children Jon (Amanda) Bradney, Desiree (Brad) Smith, Kelsey and Mackenzie Faircloth, and several great grand-children.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Cremation has taken place and the family is planning a Celebration of Life honoring Marilyn later this spring. The Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne is handling the arrangements.
Go rest high on that mountain.
