Margaret Nancy Rogers passed away peacefully on February 26, 2016 at the Davis Hospice in Cheyenne.
Margaret was born on June 5, 1933 in North Platte Nebraska to Chester and Corrine Holseapple of Rawlins Wyoming. She grew up around Shorty’s Garage with her brother Lee. Margaret married Arthur Rex Rogers on Christmas day in 1953 Margaret and Rex lived several places in Wyoming before settling in Riverton in 1966.
When Margaret’s middle daughter Beth went to college she found employment with Fremont Jade. This started a long career in the jade and gem business. Margaret’s expert knowledge of jade and jewelry led to the creation of Designs by Margaret. You could find her at most of the rock and gem shows around the western United States sharing her knowledge and buying and selling jade and gems. She was willing to share her skills with children and adults alike and taught college courses in lapidary and silver smithing at Central Wyoming College. Margaret became known as the Jade Lady to most and was very knowledgeable around the large saws and equipment it took to make fine jewelry. Rex’s lifetime interest in flying lead Margaret to obtaining her private pilot’s license, she and Rex owned several airplanes and flew around the country.
Margaret was a life time member of the Riverton Gem and Mineral Club. She was a three term member of the Riverton City Council always fighting for the correct and ethical way for her ward. She belonged to the Wyoming Chapter of 99’s and the Daughters of the American Revolution. “Pebbles” was also a longtime leader and day camp director for Girl Scouts and supported her children in all of their activities.
Survivors include daughter Evonne Rogers and her husband Ron Siekert of Cheyenne, a son Alan Rogers and his wife Kathy of Hot Springs, SD, Grandchildren Nic Rogers of Columbia, MO, Cori Siekert of Laramie and Darci Rogers of Laramie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Rex Rogers, daughter Beth Rogers, grandson Brent Johnson, her parents Chester and Corrine Holseapple and her brother Lee Holseapple.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday March 5 2016 at the Reach Foundation, 622 N. 8th W, Riverton. Memorials can be sent to PO Box 1103, Hot Springs, SD 57747.
