Madeline Lucille Rowbotham
Madeline was born to Orie and Nellie Stauffer in Laverne, Oklahoma on September 11, 1926. She graduated from Laverne High School where she played basketball. Madeline married F.J. (Junior) Beck and to this union two daughters, Joyce and Susan, were born. Her husband’s service in the Navy took the family across the U.S., including residences in Whidbey Island, WA, Osborne, KS, and Great Lakes, IL. After her husband’s retirement from the Navy, the family settled in Littleton, CO, where Madeline served as a church visitor for St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. They later divorced.
Madeline married Rev. Eugene Rowbotham in 1971 and they lived in Littleton, CO before moving to Colorado Springs, CO where she worked for a printing company. The couple moved to Cheyenne, WY when Gene was appointed District Superintendent of the Wyoming and Cheyenne Districts for the United Methodist Church. He later served as senior pastor at First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne, retiring in 1984. In Cheyenne, Madeline worked in a flower shop, and later in retail sales for Lights ‘N Such.
Madeline’s greatest loves were her family, her faith, and music. She loved to sing and was very active in the churches her husband served, singing with the church choir wherever she lived. She was involved in anything and everything, from PEO to UMW, and followed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s many activities. She had a heart for helping others and never hesitated to show people how much they were loved. She was a kind and gentle soul and will be deeply missed.
Madeline died peacefully at the age of 91 at her home in Loveland, Colorado on May 11, 2018.
Madeline is preceded in death by four sisters, one brother, her daughter Joyce Brewer and husband Eugene Rowbotham. She is survived by her daughter Susan Warren (Biff) of Niwot, CO, step-son Kevin Rowbotham (Kim) of Oklahoma City, OK, and step-daughter Brooke Ann Poe (Bill) of Colorado Springs, CO, as well as 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
