Madeline Emiko (Ogata) Jonker, 72, of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed peacefully at Davis Hospice Center surrounded by loved ones on December 26, 2022. She was born March 18,1950 in Boulder, CO to Hitoshi Ogata and Miyeko (Moriwaki) Ogata.
Fondly known as “Maddy”, she grew up in Boulder and met the love of her life in 1969, while attending college in Denver. In August 1971, Maddy married David Wesley Jonker. Together they moved about the country raising their daughters, eventually settling in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1989. They were best friends and loved to travel together, ride their ATV’s, spend time with family, and love on the countless schnauzers they rescued over the years. During her time in Cheyenne, Maddy worked for Safecard and Cendant Corporation, and then joined University of Wyoming Family Medicine where she spent nearly 10 years and retired in 2017. She and David spent their free time with family and traveling, most recently enjoying the sights and foods of Paris with family.
Maddy was a remarkable daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, Mima, friend, and “mom” to so many. She may have been small and quiet, but was a mighty force to be reckoned with if you messed with her family, a true Mama Bear. Maddy was selfless, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was kind, gentle, compassionate, creative, incredibly generous, and had a great sense of humor. She was sneaky-funny with the ability to make you laugh, even during the toughest of times. She had a wonderfully contagious smile and positive attitude. Maddy was a beautiful light that will continue to shine in all who knew her.
Madeline is survived by her daughters, Heather (Casey) Gilmore (Aurora, CO), and Amber (James) Schlabs (Cheyenne, WY); granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Emma Gilmore (Aurora, CO); sibling, Louise (Duane) Leise (Longmont, CO); and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 50 years, David Jonker.
