Cheyenne

Louis Robert Duran, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Cheyenne, Wyoming on December 17, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on May 18, 1930, in Pueblo, Colorado, Louis was a remarkable individual whose legacy will continue through his family and friends.

Louis proudly served his country in the Navy, Army, and ultimately retired from the Air Force Guard, reflecting a life dedicated to service and duty. He carried this sense of commitment into all areas of his life, exemplifying what it meant to be a wonderful dad and grandpa. His family was the pride of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Louis married the love of his life, Dolores Gallegos, in 1954, and their union remained a testament to enduring love until her passing in 2019. Together, they built a life full of memories, laughter, and love.

An Evanston, Wyoming high school graduate, Louis not only excelled academically but also actively participated in sports during his youth, fostering a deep appreciation for athletics that followed him throughout his life. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and attending sports events—especially cheering on the Denver Broncos and Wyoming Cowboys. It was in these moments, sharing his passion for sports and the great outdoors, that he bonded with his family, including watching his grandchildren's sporting events.

Louis had a delightful personality, known for being a great storyteller who could captivate any audience. His warmth and kindness made him a popular figure in every community he was part of, and he would go out of his way to help anyone in need. His love for music was also notable; he had been in a band where he entertained others and shared his joy for singing, delighting his grandchildren with Spanish songs.

Throughout his life, one of his proudest accomplishments was his family, alongside the honor of being involved in the first helicopter landing on Pikes Peak in the 1950s, a significant milestone in aviation history.

Louis is survived by his three daughters, Leona Espinoza, Kim Eres, and Julie (Lawrence) Garcia, along with grandchildren; DeeAnna (Frondee) Waters, Christopher (Sarah) Medaleno, Laurie (Moses) Gunn, Geena (Adrienne) Eres, Julien Garcia, Jordan Garcia and Lorenzo Espinoza. Great grandchildren Jasmin, Fuji, Dez Waters, Moses and Destiny Gunn, Brenden Medaleno, Jason and Gabrielle Lopez. He also leaves behind one great-great-grandson, who brought immense joy to his later years.

He is preceded in death by wife Dolores Duran and two sons-in-law, Philip Medaleno and Ron Eres.

The loss of Louis Robert Duran leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who knew him. His compassion, stories, and unwavering support will be greatly missed, but the legacy of love he created will undoubtedly live on in the lives of his family and friends.
