Louis “Louie” Victor DeBrey, 99, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2023, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, just shy of his 100th birthday. Born November 14, 1923, in Christopher, Illinois, he grew up in a coal mining camp in Firestone, Colorado. He served in the Army from 1943-1946 in Fort St. John, British Columbia helping build the Alcan Highway, and in Panama, loading ships between the Western and Eastern fronts. He returned to earn a degree from Denver University where he met and married his lifelong love, Alice (Clagett) on June 11, 1948, at St. John's Cathedral. They were happily devoted to one another for 72 years. Louie spent a career working for the IRS in Casper, Sheridan, and Cheyenne. He was a legendary angler, spending many days fishing the North Platte River and Big Creek Ranch. His gardens were always bountiful, and he passed his green thumb to his children and grandchildren. He loved dining out, golfing, card games, and traveling with Alice to Needles, California to escape the Wyoming winters. Louie is preceded in death by his wife Alice; daughter Cheryl O'Malley; and son Larry DeBrey. He is survived by his brother Robert DeBrey; son Bill DeBrey; grandchildren Kellen Groshart and Ryan O’Malley; and two great-grandchildren. As per his request, his remains will be spread along favorite places. Beloved by all who knew him, he will be sorely missed. See you in the spring, Louie.
