Les Case, 88 years old, passed away on January 6, 2016. He was born April 29, 1927 in Worland, WY to Frank and Mary Case. He was raised in Worland and graduated from Washakie County High School where he met Helen Jewel Williams. Les once said, “When we met sparks flew and the rest is history.” They married January 4, 1947 and recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Les served as a radar operator in the US Navy during WW II in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters aboard the LST 495. His ship landed in Normandy in June of ‘42. He was very proud of his service and loved to wear his WWII Veteran ball cap and visit with fellow veterans. Les was a lifelong Mason.
In 1955, Les joined the Wyoming Highway Patrol. His work took the family to Cheyenne, Rock Springs and Wheatland. While in Cheyenne, Les was the Highway Safety program manager until 1968. His career as a state employee led him to become the Executive Director of the Wyoming State Employees Association. Les continued to serve state and public employees through the Wyoming Deferred Comp program. Throughout his career, Les always worked selflessly to improve the lives of others.
After retirement Les and Helen drove the highways from Florida to California and points in between. Les had a great love of baseball and he and Helen rarely missed a Colorado Rockies game on TV and saw several home games in Denver.
Les was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary Case as well as seven siblings. He is survived by his wife Helen of Windsor, his sons Wayne (Ruth) Case, Rocky (Judy) Case of Cheyenne and six grandchildren: Tiffany Case, Amiee (Shawn) Reese, Eric Case (Christine McNamara), Sam (Sarah) Case, Rocky (Chava) Case and Mackenzie Case and twelve great-grandchildren of whom he was very proud.
The family wishes to thank doctors and staff at Columbine Health Systems and friends at the Good Samaritan in Windsor, Colorado. In lieu of flowers the family wishes others pass on an act of kindness or contribute to a charity of their choice.
A memorial service will be held January 23rd at 10:00am at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel in Cheyenne.
