Larry Orr, 71, of Cheyenne died on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in Cheyenne.
He was born on June 22, 1946 in Lewellen, Nebraska. His family moved to Wyoming shortly after his birth, where his parents bought a ranch. Larry attended Sunrise school before being transferred to Guernsey School, now known as Guernsey-Sunrise School. He graduated in 1964.
Larry entered the U.S. Army in 1965, serving with the 3rd Battalion 8th/Infantry 4th/ID in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He received two Purple Hearts, a Vietnam Service Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge. Larry went back home to become a cattle rancher on the family ranch after his discharge. He spent 57 years on the ranch.
Larry met Bonnie and they were married in 1994. In 2004, they moved to Cheyenne and Larry is a life member of VFW Post 1881. Larry joined the VFW in 1967, becoming a Life Member in 1983. He become active in 1999 and was elected Commander for four and a half years at the Guernsey Post 4471. He served as District 5 Commander for two years, and State Chief of Staff, State Chaplain, State Jr. Vice Commander, State Sr. Vice Commander and State Commander.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie; children, Rinnie Orr, Casey Orr (Leisha), and Katherine Jacobson (Jay); bonus children, Tina Haynes (Jose Lara), Don Haynes, and Connie Haynes; brother Edward “Butch” Orr (Deena); sister, Jeannette Perich (Bill); and numerous grandchildren, bonus grandchildren, great grandchildren, and bonus great grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Edward Orr; his mother, Phyllis Orr-Harvey; his sister, Dixie Lynn Orr; and his brother, Joseph Henry Orr.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, April 14th, 2:00 p.m., at the Cheyenne VFW Post 1881.
