Larry Grant Brown, 75, of Cheyenne Wy, died on November 17, 2020 in Cheyenne. After 19 days in the hospital Larry lost his battle to Covid-19 at 5:30am. The family wants everyone to know that Larry put up a brave fight against this horrible virus and fought to the end for his family.

He was born on February 1,1945 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was born to Orville and Margaret Brown. Orville worked in the fields and later as a plasterer/carpenter, Margaret worked as a homemaker raising 6 children and later as a store clerk.

Larry grew up around and in Lyman Nebraska. He lived 5 miles outside of Lyman in a very small town called Henry. He started his life in Henry in a 3-room shack where his father would hunt ducks for food. Beans were a main staple for the family. In the winter of 1949, the weather was so bad his father Orville had to tie a rope to himself to go out to the barn to make sure he made it back to the house. Larry and the siblings would walk across the fields and bridge to go to school in Lyman. Larry and his siblings would help his father work in the beet and bean fields.

Larry graduated high school in Lyman on May 12, 1966. After high school he worked as a tool maker for a company called Coup la Matic. He became a very talented tool maker. Larry also followed in his dad’s footsteps by becoming a plasterer.

In 1967 Larry met the love of his life Sonja Elaine Flinn. They married in 1969 when Larry was 24 years old. Sonja was 20 years old. Sonja had two sons from a previous marriage. James Darin Todd and Donald Ray Todd. Larry raised and supported the 2 boys as his own loving sons. In May of 1970 they had a daughter Tina Marie Brown and November of 1971 had a daughter Cari Renee Brown.

Larry worked as a tool maker and plasterer to support the family. Sonja also worked at Coup la Matic to support the family. After he married and was raising the 4 children in Lyman. Larry and Sonja became lifelong friends with the Ewing family. The Brown family and the Ewing family had 4 children each so they all would run around the town of Lyman together.

In 1978 the family moved to Colorado where Larry worked at a stucco company until 1991. Sonja worked as a CNA. In 1991 they moved to Cheyenne Wyoming where Larry and Sonja started their own stucco company called Quality Stucco and plastering until 2005. Larry worked with his son Donnie and son in law Darren. After 2005 Larry did side jobs as a plasterer and Sonja worked in a nursing home. In 2014 Larry and Sonja worked as a custodians for the VFW where he was a long-time member until his death on November 17, 2020.

Larry loved to go fishing and camping. He enjoyed working on cars and doing projects with his son Donnie. Larry loved to hang out with his grandson Austin and granddaughter Kaylee showing them how to work on things around the house.

He was a long-time member of the VFW where he actively volunteered for several events and activities that the club would put on. Larry made many life long friends at this club. His favorite was serving Tom and Jerry drinks on Christmas eve and grilling with his son James for the Memorial Day event. They would cook and serve 100's of hamburgers and hot dogs.

Most of all Larry enjoyed spending time with all his family members. He made sure the family got together all through his life and stayed in touch with each other. Larry loved to travel and take trips to see family members. He loved his brothers and sisters and all their family members. Larry came from humble beginnings and worked hard all his life to support his family. He was a fun, loving, caring person. He touched a lot of lives in his 75 years.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja Elaine Brown; children, Donnie Todd, Tina Dunkelberger Brown and Cari Brown-Berig; brothers, Ronald Brown, Tom Brown, and Leonard Brown; sister; Marjie Faria; 12 grandchildren, Brenda, Rachel, Alex, Ashleah, Cody, Melyssa, Casey, Tommi, Kaylee, and Austin; 2 step grandchildren, Tanner and Gavin; 11 great grandchildren, Tayla, Baylee, Mason, Avanna, Marcus, Jackson, Bailey, Marley, Shandi, Dameon, and Boue. 17 nieces and nephews, Jim, Tammy, Tommy, Wayne, Jaime, Rick, Lenny, Pam, Jessica, Paula, John, Brenda, Bobby, Carl, Cindy, Michael, and Connie.

The names mentioned here are long term spouses of Larry's children. They have been in his life for many years and have been very helpful and loving to the family. Larry loved them deeply, Catina Todd, wife of Donnie, Clinton Dunkelberger, husband of Tina, Darren Berig, husband of Cari, and Amberlee Herlyck, partner and mother of 2 children of deceased brother James Todd.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Margaret Brown; brother, William which passed at 6 weeks old; sister, Audrey Rosenthal; and his son, James Darin Todd.

Services will be Monday, December 7, 2020, 2:00 p.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel with the understanding that they could possibly be rescheduled to the COVID-19 pandemic.
