Kenneth Glen Clark

March 2, 1938 — June 9, 2023

Kenneth Glen Clark, 85, of Cheyenne and Mesa, Arizona, died on June 9, 2023 in Cheyenne.
He was born on March 2, 1938 in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Kenny was the first born child of Alice Stevens and Bert Clark. He was followed by two brothers, Jim and Butch and a sister Joyce. His dad, Bert left when Kenny was 5 years old and he never saw him again.
Alice remarried and had his second sister, Patsy. Kenny grew up with the help of his cousins, the Lyons Family. He helped on their family farm. Kenny said he started running a tractor at 6 years old. Kenny remained close with the Lyon's family throughout his life. That was where he learned and honed his driving and mechanical skills. Kenny attended Cheyenne High school, back when there was only one in town.
Kenny fell in love and married Janet Mathiot, they had three children, Kenny, Rodney and David. Kenny tried his hand at farming and then as a mechanic and welder. Kenny worked as a custom combiner and traveled from Texas to Montana harvesting wheat. He worked as a supervisor with Read Construction and Teton Construction before finally starting a trucking company that he operated until he was in his early '80s.
Janet and Kenny divorced and he married Jonie Richmond. They had a child Darin, and lived in Cheyenne until they moved to Arizona for the weather and baseball.
Kenny always loved his cars and would drive everywhere even if walking would have been quicker. He had a knack to make a car run and run well. He started racing in the early 60s on a dare, it turned out he was good at it. Really good. His kids grew up at the racetrack. Kenny spent every Saturday during the summer for at least 35 years in a race car. His signature color was green and his number was 13. Before the late models his favorite cars were 55 Chevy hardtops. He converted over 30 of them into stock cars.
Kenny won many championships and held lots of track records. His favorite part was kissing the trophy girls. He had lots of great people help him with his cars. He was outgoing and made many friends.
After his racing years he moved to Arizona and had some interesting jobs hauling for and setting up TV commercials for 2’s Company and Ford Motor Company.
Kenny and Jonie loved the warm weather in Arizona. They usually would return to Cheyenne in the summer to reunite with friends. Kenny enjoyed helping Darin with his race car.
The last few years Kenny spent most of his time caring for his wife, Jonie. He was heartbroken when she passed away last September.
Kenny is survived by his sons; Kenny (Jody) and Rodney of Cheyenne, David of Conifer, CO and Darin (Becky) of Cheyenne, (7) Grandchildren and (4) Great-Grandchildren and another one due in August. He is also survived by his sisters, Joyce (Ronald) Preston and Patsy Stevens; and a brother Jim Clark.
A Memorial Service will take place in August.
