Kay Diane Thorson, 81, of Riverton passed away Sunday, October 11th at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne after a courageous battle with cancer with her family by her side.
Kay was born December 2, 1933 in Harvey, ND and had lived in Riverton, having recently moved to Cheyenne to be closer to her family.
She was raised and educated in Driskell, ND and graduated in 1954 from the School of Nursing in Bismarck, ND.
She married Roger D. Thorson, September 7, 1955 at Bismarck Lutheran Church. He passed away three weeks short of their 50th Anniversary.
Kay was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Riverton, Daughters of the Nile, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, canning, spending time with her family and Sophie, her faithful teacup poodle, who never left her side throughout her illness.
Kay was involved in various areas of nursing, working from 1958 until her retirement in 2000. Most of her career involved the clinical setting, surgery and the Lander Training School. She touched many lives throughout her career and cared deeply for all of them.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Petty of Cheyenne; son, Kent Thorson of Calumet City, IL; grandchildren, Trista (Josh) Miller of Aurora, CO, Shay (April) Petty of Douglas, Jonah (Nathan) Scott and Brittany Romsa; four great-grandchildren; and numerous close and lifelong friends.
She was preceded by her parents, Kenneth and Luella McKane.
Memorial services will be held in Riverton at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 17th at St. John Lutheran Church. Private family interment at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
Memorials may be made to the Davis Hospice Center or St. John Lutheran Church.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
