Julia A. Manzardo was born in Sunrise, Wyoming to Catterina and Antonio Manzardo on July 4, 1928.
Julia was raised in Sunrise and graduated from Sunrise High School in May of 1946. She started working at an early age to supplement her family’s income after her father passed away when she was eight.
W.F. “Bill” GrandPre came into her life during WWII after being introduced by one of her friends. Bill and Julia were married in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hartville, Wyoming on June 10, 1947.
Bill worked in the Sunrise mine and Julia was secretary at the Sunrise High School.
Their first child Judy was born in 1956, followed by Bill III in 1958, Jody in 1959 and Bob in 1963.
They moved their family to Cheyenne in 1960, where Bill started his carpentry business. Julia was instrumental in partnering with Bill as secretary and bookkeeper for the business.
Julia and Bill were very active in their children’s sports and activities, and provided team uniforms and other support while their children were going to St. Mary’s High School.
Julia cooked a complete Italian dinner for the graduation class for each of their children.
Julia and Bill were truly partners in every way and devoted to each other. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before Bill passed away in December 2012.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Catterina Morris; and her special niece, Maryann Morris Hainline.
She is survived by her five children, Judy Wertz, Bill III, Jody, and Robert “Bob” GrandPre, and Richard Morris and their spouses.
