Joseph Daniel "Dog" Lucero

Joseph Daniel “Dog” Lucero, 57, of Cheyenne, died on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
He was born on November 25, 1957 in Cheyenne and had lived here all of his life.
Joe was a heavy equipment operator and had worked at Ready Mix Concrete, Simon Construction, Edwards Construction, Hurst Construction, Concrete Express, and once again at Edwards Construction. While working in Denver, he was involved in the redevelopment of Lowery and Stapleton.
When he was 16 he was the youngest peer counselor in the United States and worked at the Awareness House with Corky Weydebeld and Cal Furnish. He was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, North American Fishing Club, and was an assistant boxing coach at the Cheyenne Amateur Boxing Club. Joe loved cooking and popcorn, hunting, fishing, bowling, aquariums, chess board games, wrestling, MMA, hockey, and Nascar Racing, and working with his hands woodworking and carpentry, building fences, and pouring concrete.
He is survived by his wife Peggy L. Lucero, whom he married on October 27, 1978 in Cheyenne; two sons, Daniel Luis Lucero (Genesis Williams) and Tomas John Lucero (Alicia Williams); his siblings, Rachel Spigner (Eddie), Tony Lucero (Amy), Tommy Lucero, Mikey Lucero (Anna), Andy Lucero (Mary), Cindy Martinez (Mike), Joe Herrera, Jr. (Tammy), Julia Pacheco (John), Christopher Herrera, Roberta Black (James), and Hope Herrera-Bradley; five grandchildren, Dontae Lee Lucero, Alexander Joseph Lucero, Kailynn Marie Lucero, Lucas Miles Lucero, and Izabelle Peighton Lucero; his mother-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helidoro “Ben” Lucero and Eldora Herrera; and his grandparents, Eufracia Gonzales Lucero and Fernando Evans Lucer, and Josephine Trujillo and Telesfor Garcia.
Vigil for the Deceased will be Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
Funeral Liturgy will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Father August Koeune as the celebrant.
Pallbearers are Phillip Smith, Aaron Pacheco, John Thomas, Stephen Minor, Josh Bustos, Daniel Bustos, and Michael Smith.
Honorary pallbearers are Cirilo Duran, Ricky Bustos, Andy Lucero, Tony Lucero, Mikey Lucero, Tom Lucero, John Pacheco, Tomas Pacheco, Bill Edwards, Nick Smith, Dennis Barrett, and Jack Montemayor.
Interment will be in Olivet Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
