Joseph (Joe) A. Burns died peacefully at his home in Cheyenne on July 9, 2022. He was 95 years old.
Joe was born June 26, 1927, in Sioux City, Iowa. The second son of John and Mary Burns. He was raised in Sioux City during the Great Depression and attended elementary school. He began working odd jobs at a young age to financially contribute to his family. He joined the US Navy at age 18 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Joe married Carmelrose Martin on June 24, 1950, in Sioux City, IA. To this union, five children were born.
Joe was a long-haul truck driver for forty years. While he worked for various trucking companies throughout his career, he retired from Consolidated Freightways in Cheyenne.
Joe was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, a member of the Teamsters Union and YMCA. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his younger years, he enjoyed family fishing trips, camping and traveling to visit family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Carmelrose of Cheyenne; five children; Patrick (Karen) of Hendersonville, NC, Kathleen Parks (Jim) of Rogers, AR, Michael Burns of Cotopaxi, CO, James Burns of Cheyenne and Margaret Botkins of Cheyenne; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Thomas and Louis.
