John Perez, 93, formerly of Cheyenne, died on Sunday, June 3rd in Aurora, CO. He was born in Ennis, TX and lived in Cheyenne for 57 years before moving to Aurora.
John farmed in the Nebraska Panhandle area until 1956. He retired as a Maintenance of Way supervisor from the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Union Pacific Old Timers Club, the Moose Lodge, Cheyenne Post 6 and was a charter member of the Polka Lovers Klub of America. He enjoyed fishing, polka dancing and was an avid reader. He was known for having a very strong work ethic and enjoyed carpentry and fixing automobiles.
John is survived by two daughters, Victoria Montoya (James) of Aurora, CO and Margie Esquibel (Robert) of Cheyenne and one son, Thomas Perez (Robin) of Titusville, FL; grandchildren, Brian Esquibel (Meghan Berry), Christina Montoya, Lisa Esquibel (Russell Martens), Laura Cooper (Greg), Gina Montoya, Ian Perez and Josten Perez; great-grandsons, Jaden Cooper, Eli Cooper, Hudson Martens; as well as numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Genevieve, a sister, Connie Perez Swanson and a grandson, Richard Montoya.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Perez, Brian Esquibel, Ian Perez, Vincent De Ollos, Dr. Robert Vera, Greg Cooper and Russell Martens. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, sons-in-law and daughter-in-law.
Funeral liturgy will be at St. Mary’s Cathedral at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 7th. Interment will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
