John C. Martinez, 71, of Cheyenne, died Friday, October 3, 2014 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 11, 1943 in Taos, New Mexico. He was the son of Agapito and Santanita (Sanchez) Martinez. At a young age John moved to Cheyenne with his family. He worked for the U.S. Post Office for 30 years before his retirement in 2003. He married MaryAnn Lopez on October 12, 1963 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cheyenne.
John was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was an avid Bronco and Rockies fan. He also enjoyed fishing, reading, tinkering on cars, and playing the slot machines.
He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn of Cheyenne; two sons and their spouses, John (Margo) Martinez of Henderson, Nevada; James (Andrea) Martinez of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter and her husband, Lorie (Tim) Cisneros of Cheyenne; two brothers, Adonis Martinez of Salt Lake City; and David Martinez of Henderson; four sisters, Edna Slattery of Salt Lake City; Fabiola Montemayor of Cheyenne; Margaret Gallegos of Cheyenne; and Vicky Guy of Denver; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces including Brenda Duran and Tolana Fernandez whom he considered as his own daughters.
John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Blas and Toby Martinez.
Pallbearers will be Timmy John Cisneros, Jason Cisneros, Stephen Cisneros, James Martinez, Jr., Alyssa Castaneda-Padilla, Lawrence Martinez, Lance Martinez and Marcello Martinez.
Vigil Services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 7th at 6:00 p.m. at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Funeral Liturgy will be Wednesday, Oct. 8th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment of his urn will be on Thursday at 10:00.
