John C. Helsel, 74, of Cheyenne died Feb. 10 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. He was born May 16, 1941, in Shattuck, OK to Phillip and Ella Grace (Fischer) Helsel.
John attended schools in Stratton, Colorado before joining the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably for 4 years. John worked as a master plumber and pipe fitter before he retired in 2003
John enjoyed walleye fishing and hunting trips with his sons and son-in-law’s, building beautiful wood furniture, watching his Nebraska Cornhuskers, attending sporting events for his grandchildren and spending time with his family. John was very proud of his grandchildren and loved to tell everyone that would listen all about them.
John is survived by his wife, Betty (Walsh) Helsel of Cheyenne; two sons, John E. (Christina) Helsel and Michael (Stacy) Helsel of Cheyenne; two daughters, Tanda (John) Frahm of Fenton, Michigan and Jodi (Erik) Smith of Cheyenne; a brother, Gary (Janice) Helsel of Texas; one sister, Beverly Ann Young of Colorado; 9 grandchildren, John Thomas and Victoria Helsel of Cheyenne; Chandler Frahm of Fenton, MI; Joseph and Teegan Helsel of Cheyenne; Mikaela, Chaisley, Katerina and Natasha Smith of Cheyenne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
