John F. Cram, age 69, died August 15, 2017 at Davis Hospice following a lengthy illness. He was born June 19, 1948 in Riverton, Wyoming to Julia Frances (Archer) and John Frederick Cram Sr. He weighed 3 pounds 7 ounces and remained at the Westerland home for care until the end of July when he was able to go home. He was raised on the family farm until the death of his father when he and his mother moved into Riverton. He graduated from Riverton High School in 1966 and continued his education at Casper College and the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1970 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He received an MBA in accounting in 1972 from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
He met his future wife Sherry L. James at Casper College in 1967 at the fall mixer. They were married August 8, 1970 in Casper at Christ United Methodist Church. After college they lived in Cheyenne a short time before moving to Billings, MT where he was Controller for Oil Resources. He also successfully sat for the CPA exam. During that time they welcomed a son Robert and a daughter Amy. In 1982 they moved to Littleton, CO where he was in the accounting department for Milestone Petroleum. During their time in Colorado they grew their family by two more children, E and Travis. In 1990 they returned to Cheyenne where he worked in Wyoming state government, first in the Department of Audit as the first Minerals Administrator and then in the Department of Revenue. He retired in 2012.
John had a passion for motorcycling and had been a member of the Goldwing Road Riders Association. In retirement he volunteered at the Wyoming State Museum. He loved talking about western and Wyoming history. He was a great storyteller. He was a member of Frontier United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary A. Gasser. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sherry, of Cheyenne, his children Rob (Claudia del Valle) of Rocklin, CA, Amy (David) Cram Helwich of St. Paul, MN, E of Coralville, IA, and Travis (Kristen) of Laramie, as well as three grandchildren, Gabriel and Madeleine Cram Helwich and Alexa Cram. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 3 pm Sunday, August 27th at Frontier United Methodist Church, 1888 Four Mile Rd., Cheyenne, with a potluck meal following. His ashes will be scattered at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Wyoming Chapter of The Alzheimer's Association ( 2232 Dell Range Blvd Ste. 220,, Cheyenne 82009) for family support and education or Davis Hospice (6000 Sycamore Rd, Cheyenne, 82009).
