John C. Cometto, 80, of Cheyenne, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in Cheyenne surrounded by family.
He was born on January 16, 1939 in Cheyenne.
Mr. Cometto graduated from St. Mary's High in 1957. He joined the United States Navy in July 1957 after graduation and served for 2 years. After returning from his Naval duties, John went on a dinner date with Marie Wilkinson and friends a romance soon blossomed. They were married in August 1963. John attended Regis College in Denver, CO then transferred to the University of Wyoming in and graduated in 1964 with a degree in civil engineering and became an engineer with the State of Wyoming Highway Department. He was with the Wyoming Highway Department until 1978 when took a position with the Kemmerer Coal Company where he worked until 1984 when he returned to the Wyoming Highway Department moving to Pinedale. He retired from the Wyoming Highway Department after 35 years of service. He returned to Cheyenne and went to work for the City of Cheyenne Water Department where he spent 2 beautiful summers in Fox Park overseeing a water pipeline project during the day and fishing in the evening. He retired for a second time and shortly thereafter took up the game of golf and was frustrated until the end. He enjoyed golf, guns, shooting, and reloading, and was a member of the Airport Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Cometto of Cheyenne; two sons, Michael Cometto (Theresa) of Casper and Chris Cometto (Tracy) of Cheyenne; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cometto was preceded in death by a son, Dan Cometto; his parents, John and Minnie Cometto; and a brother, Robert Cometto.
Graveside services will be announced at a later date.
