John Leslie Allen

February 6, 1958 — September 6, 2019

After a valiant battle with cancer, John Leslie Allen entered eternal life on September 6th, 2019 in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the age of 61. He is endearingly remembered by his wife, Sherry Allen; his step-daughter, Leslie (Brandon) Warta; and his step-sons Justin (Sarah) Meier and Kyle (Sara) Meier, and 8 step grandchildren; sisters, Dianna (Dan) DeShanney, Mary (Sam) Sequenzia, and LueAnn Foley, 13 nieces and nephews, and 18 great-nieces and -nephews.
John was born on February 6th, 1958 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to father Clifford Allen and mother Lillian Allen (Green), who predeceased him. He grew up fishing the creeks and lakes of Wyoming which was a lifelong hobby and one shared with his wife. He was raised in Cheyenne and attended Cheyenne East High School. From an early age, he was known for taking things apart just to understand how it worked. His understanding of mechanics, engineering, and fabrication are traits that were evident from a young age and considered a gift from God by John.
John married Sherry Ryan on March 8th, 1996. They together, as a team have built houses, were a commercial tandem truck driving team, started their own mechanic repair shop, and most recently they accomplished the task of revamping a wood pellet facility in Denmark.
Remaining true to his stubborn workaholic nature, John continued to work (remotely, mostly) even after his diagnosis of esophageal cancer in May of 2018, until his final days. He was resolute in his work during his treatment. As was John’s nature, he had a strong will and put up the best fight in his battle with his illness, remaining brave and determined to persevere.
Beyond work, John loved his wife immensely and truly cherished her. He genuinely cared for people and invested many hours in efforts to help others better themselves in Celebrate Recovery and donated to Shriner’s, to enable children in need of medical care to receive the care they needed to be successful in life. Because of his caring nature, he acquired several “adopted” family members through the years as well. We will all miss him, but he will never be forgotten.
Services to honor John’s life are open to all. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, September 10th at Destiny Church in Cheyenne. A fellowship reception will follow the service. John will be laid to rest at a private burial on his dearest friends’ ranch.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Amos Bailey of Anschutz Cancer Pavilion (Denver, CO), John’s palliative doctor in his last days, for his professional work and attentive treatment and the entire staff of Davis Hospice for their constant, loving care.
