Joanne Elizabeth Bogus died May 1, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 8, 1932 in Lander, Wyoming to Frank Joseph and Genevieve Eleanor Gill. The Gill family moved to Cheyenne in the fall of 1943 where Joanne entered Sixth Grade at St. Mary’s Academy alongside her sister Penny and brother Nick. Their brother Joseph died of Scarlet Fever at the age of two on the day Joanne was born. Their older sister Mary, after attending the University of Wyoming, moved to Washington D.C., and the four oldest Gill boys, Frank, James, Ted, and Tom, were all enlisted in the armed services of the United States. After the War, the whole family reunited in Cheyenne to make their homes. In 1944, Joanne was the figure skating champion of Cheyenne.

Joanne graduated from St. Mary’s High School in June 1950 and obtained a B.A. in Education from the University of Wyoming in June 1954.

On August 28, 1954 Joanne married Thomas Charles Bogus and they made their first home in Laramie, Wyoming, where Tom was finishing his legal studies at the University of Wyoming.

Joanne taught at the University of Wyoming Lab School and went on to teach music for LCSD #1. She later served as Director for Cheyenne Child Care Centers, Inc. and as Director of the Village School.

Joanne was involved with many community organizations, including St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Mary’s School, the Wyoming Council of Catholic Women, the Cursillos in Christianity, Pi Beta Phi Sorority’s Civic League, the Laramie County Cancer Society, the Laramie County Mental Health Board, the Attention Home Board, Sweet Adeline’s, Community Chorus, Capitol Chorale, and the Little Theatre Christian Players.

Tom and Joanne were blessed with six children: Mary Joanne, Elizabeth Anne (Russ), Thomas Joseph (Ann), Barbara Anne (Dan), James Patrick (Peg), and John Michael (Jody).

Joanne was preceded in death by Tom Bogus, her husband of 59 years; her daughter Mary Jo; her parents; her brothers Frank, James, Tom, Nick, and Joseph; her sisters, Mary and Penny; her nephews Frank, Kevin, and Chuck Gill; and her son-in-law, Mike Petersen.

She is survived by her living children and their spouses, as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law. Harold and Steven Bogus; and sisters-in-law, Leona Gill and Marion Barnes.

"Seani" loved her grandchildren - Matthew Michael Petersen (Ashley), Mary Elizabeth Anne Bogus (Laurel), Mitchell Gill Petersen, Mary Jo Elizabeth Anne Petersen, Christopher Caleb Stevens, Cameron Joseph Stevens, Colin Daniel Stevens, Sarah Anne Bogus, Bridger Kenneth Bogus, Caden Thomas Bogus, Victoria Rose Bogus; and her great-grandchildren are Cole Thomas and Nolan Jeffrey Petersen.

Vigil for the Deceased will be Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at St. Mary's Cathedral.

Funeral Liturgy will be Friday, 3:30 p.m., at St. Mary's Cathedral.
