Janis Loy Wilson

December 14, 1935 — December 27, 2022

Janis Loy Wilson, 87, of Cheyenne, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022 at the Davis Hospice Center. She was born in Orchard, Colorado on December 14, 1935 to Floyd E. and Ruth J. Jones. Thanks to her big sister, Dell Rae Porter, Janis got her first job at the Princess Theatre in Cheyenne at the age of 13. However, payday usually found her at “Flory’s Shoe Store” buying new shoes. She later worked at the Lincoln Theatre where she met her future husband, Gordon G. Wilson. From there she went to work for the Frontier Refinery, which she loved, and then began her lengthy and successful career with Government. First with the State of Wyoming Recreation Commission where she would eventually be appointed as Director of the agency by Governor Ed Herschler, then with the Federal Government, United States Department of Justice as Deputy Clerk of the Courts. Following her retirement from the Courts, Judge Brimmer called her and asked her to come back because they couldn’t do it without her.

She married Gordon G. Wilson on January 31, 1954. Together they had 3 children; son James (Sally) Wilson; and daughters Dainette Evans and Nanette (Mike) Vasey. Her loving husband, Gordon, passed away in July of 2003. Her loyal dog “Miss Thing” became her close companion.

Her first love was family, especially Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and her Great-Great Granddaughter, Taisley Mae Wilson. She wished for us to name each and every one of them. Six Grandchildren; Corey (Christine) Wilson, Daisy (Matt) Burt, Travis (Christy) Wilson, Jennifer (Brandon) Munn, Jesson (Kim) Vasey and Whitney (Krista) Wilson.

15 Great-Grandchildren; Garrett (Jazmyne) Wilson, Tucker Wilson, Leslie and Brycen Bailey, Brycen and Nolan Burt, Blayden Pollitt, Colter Wilson, Brennin Munn, Preston, Charlette, Alexander and Eva Vasey, Wyatt and Cooper Wilson.

Jan was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 60 years and her Beta Sigma Phi sisters continued to support her to the end.

Her hobbies, other than work, were canasta, sorority, bingo, and puzzles. In her younger days she loved skiing and golf.

She is survived by her best friend and big sister, Dell Rae Porter; her life-long friend, Lois Lumsden; her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great granddaughter as well as many close nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Toy Gay and Shirley Morgan; one brother James Jones; and her daughter-in-law, Becky Wilson.

We would like to thank the staff of Davis Hospice Center for the love and care Mom received while there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Davis Hospice Center, 6000 Sycamore Road, Cheyenne, WY 82009 or the charity of your choice.

The service will also be live streamed beginning at 10:00 am on Friday, January 6, 2023 at www.wrcfuneral.com .
