Janis was born May 19th, 1938, at her parents’ home in Hosmer, SD.
She passed away May 23rd, 2023, at her home in Cheyenne, WY.
As a child, she lived and attended school in South and North Dakotas.
She married Edmund Fiechtner in 1956. Due to Ed's work, they moved around A LOT. They had four children within six years, all born in different states. In 1968, they settled in Cheyenne, WY where Jan said, "I feel like I'm home". She made Cheyenne her home for the next 55 years touching the lives of so many.
Jan was a stay-at-home mom for many years growing, canning and cooking the family's food, cutting their hair (yikes!) and sewing their clothes and doll clothes. She was even a den mother for the boy scouts.
Early work included the F.E. Warren Air Force base day care center and commissary. Later Jan worked at the BLM as an administrative assistant, retiring after 18 years.
She kept herself active by participating in numerous groups and organizations where many members became her extended family.
Preceding Janis in death are her parents, Arthur and Emma (Streeb) Herrboldt; brothers, Robert and Milton Herrboldt; and sister, Sharon Mayer.
She is survived by sisters, Doris Carlson and Betty Schuette; sons, Jerome Fiechtner (Cheryl), Donald Fiechtner and Geano Standifer (Tabitha) all of Cheyenne, WY; daughters, Terri Eggert of Denver, CO, and Sarah Hunter of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Carter and Emily Eggert of Denver, CO, Matt Fiechtner (Cora) and Adam Fiechtner of Cheyenne, WY, Victoria Owen (Nick) and Christopher Fiechtner (Jennifer) of Cheyenne, WY and Copperas Cove, TX, Dene Standifer of Wood River, IL, Kenya Crawford (Will) of St. Charles, MO and Erianna Standifer of Cheyenne, WY; three great grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who loved her deeply and who will miss her greatly.
Our family would like to thank family and friends for all the love and support as we say "Godspeed until we meet again" to Janis.
Services will be held at 3pm, Monday June 12th, 2023, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 218 E. 19th St., Cheyenne, WY. Reception following.
