Janis E. Brown, 65, of Cheyenne, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at her home after a
lengthy illness.
She was born November 28, 1949 in Bloomfield, New Jersey, a daughter to Bertram and
Dorothea (Emmerich) Engelke. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and
graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1967. She then attended Boston University and
Rutgers where she became a nurse.
Janis married Craig Brown on June 2, 1973 in Bloomfield. They moved to Port Jervis, New
York in 1982 where she was an active community member serving on the City Council. In 1992
they moved to Wyoming and she became a member of Cheyenne Hills Church and also served
on the Frontier Days Night Show committee.
Janis had an insatiable zest for life and laughter and her greatest wish was to give her
children roots and wings.
Loving family include her husband Craig; a son, Seth (Holly) Brown of LA; three daughters,
Abigail (Matt) Brown-Petrakian of Pennsylvania; Megan (Keith) Lavalley and Samara Lark
Brown of Vermont; three grandchildren, Braylon and Grace Lavalley, and Stephon Petrakian; a
sister, Joanne (Gene) Dunn of New Jersey; and niece and nephew, Carissa Dunn and Lance
(Robin) Dunn of New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Memorial Service is being planned for November 28, 2015 in New Jersey.
Cremation has taken place and arrangements are under the direction of Wiederspahn-
Radomsky Chapel.
