Janice McKee, 74, of Cheyenne died December 12 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was born October 17, 1946, in Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy B. Wilson, her mother, Clara Dean (Watson) Wilson, her brother Lawrence Wilson all from Dallas, and her stepson Bradley McKee of Denver, Colorado. She was survived by husband Richard “Mac” McKee and stepsons Richard Ward McKee of Denver, Colorado and David McKee of Evergreen Colorado. She also left behind more distant relatives and many close friends.
Jan attended Sunset High School in Oak Cliff, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, and graduated with a degree in Botany from Colorado State University in 1986. She worked as a botanist in consulting firms and retired from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2011 where she worked on endangered species programs. At a study site in northern Colorado, she identified a species of willow that has not been found in any other place in Colorado.
She loved dogs and owned as many as six at a time. She was active in Retriever Rescue of Colorado, adopting many dogs and fostering many more.
