James P. Gerardi

January 25, 1915 — July 23, 2018

James P. Gerardi passed away at the age of 103, on July 23, 2018 in Tooele, Utah.
He was born on January 25, 1915 in Trinidad, Colorado to Ennocenti and Jenoefa Rosina Girardi. The family moved to Rock Springs in 1917 where he lived until graduating from Rock Springs High School in 1933. He worked in the U.S. General Land Office in Wyoming and Nevada until he joined the U.S. Army in 1941, serving his country until the end of WWII. After the war he went to work for the Wyoming Highway Department in the materials laboratory.
He met and married Violet “Vi” Ellsworth on January 24, 1953.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Enno and Rosie Girardi; wife, Violet; brother, Jerry Girardi; sister, Mary Girardi Barbero; and his nephews, Robert Barbero and Philip Karstoft.
He is survived by his nephews, Roland Barbero (Sandy) of Stansbury Park, Utah, and Donald Barbero (Sara) and Dennis Barbero of Rock Springs; nieces, Johanna Girardi Karstoft, of Rock Springs, Maryanne Barbero of Florida, and Deanna Sommers (Bob) of Cheyenne; and many great, great-great, and great-great-great nephews and nieces, all of whom loved him very much. Uncle Jimmy, there will be such a void without you at family reunions, backyard barbeques with Dan’s family, Thanksgiving dinner at Johanna’s, and Christmas with Julie’s family. You enriched all our lives for many, many years and will be sorely missed.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the many friends that cared enough to stay in touch with calls and cards throughout his twilight years. Jimmy’s family so appreciates all the staff at Cottage Glen Assisted Living in Tooele that loved and cared for him the last seven years of his life. To Curtis Dustin, FMP who took care of Jimmy’s medical needs, thank you. Our gratitude goes out to Father Ken VIalpando, Pastor of St. Marguerites, Eucharistic Ministers, Ima Helm and Pat Roe, who brought him communion and visited with him every week, you were our visiting angels of mercy. And to Rocky Mountain Hospice that cared for him his last days, we so appreciate how caring and loving you were with Jimmy.
