James Patrick Bogus, 61 years of age, passed away with courage and grace on February 21, 2024, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
James was born November 17, 1962, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Tom and Joanne Bogus. He graduated from Cheyenne Central in 1981. During high school, Jim was all state cross country for 2 years. His 3200M relay team held the state record for several years. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Outstanding Names and Faces. He was also senior class vice-president and a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. After high school, Jim attended Black Hills State on a cross country scholarship. Later, he transferred to the University of Wyoming where he was a member of the Sigma NU Fraternity. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Education. Jim received his Masters of Science Biology in 2012 from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
For 5 years, Jim taught and coached at Lake Worth High Schol in Lake Worth, Texas. He then taught and coached at Nolan Catholic College Preparatory High School in Fort Worth, Texas. While in Texas, he met Peg and they were married in October of 1998 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1998 where Jim taught Human Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Genetics, Dual Credit Biology, Physical Science and Fly Fishing. He coached basketball, football, and track. Jim also was a part time General Biology teacher for Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyoming.
On February 19, 2003, Victoria Rose was born, a proud moment for Jim. She will always be his “Sunshine”. He often sang to her “My Brown Eyed Girl”. Jim was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Scottsbluff where he served as a Youth Religion Teacher and a member of The Knights of Columbus. Jim also served on the Board of Trustees for the Nebraska Children’s Home Society. His interests included fly fishing, gardening, camping, biking, cross-country skiing, reading, rockhounding, hiking in the Snowy Mountain range and being with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Joanne, sister Mary Jo and grandparents Frank and Genevieve Gill and Thomas F. and Vera Bogus.
He is survived by his wife Peg, daughter Victoria, sisters and brothers Liz Peterson, Tom (Ann) Bogus, Barbara (Dan) Stevens, John (Jody) Bogus, numerous nieces, nephews and great.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to The Nebraska Children’s Home Society.
