Jim was born in Cheyenne, WY. on June 23, 1946, to the late John “Jack” L. and Mary E. “Betty” (Devine) Ankney. After graduating from South High School in Denver and a short manufacturing stint with Samsonite, Jim joined the US Navy. Among his duty stations were Camp Lejeune Marine Base at Jacksonville, NC, the USS Edwards at Pearl Harbor, HI, the USS Dale at Charleston, SC and Mayport, FL.,the USS Taylor at Bath ME., (Plankowner), and in Charleston, SC, the USS Groves at Mayport, FL., and ASWTRACENPAC AND NTC in San Diego, CA. After 23 1/2 years of services to his country, Jim retired in 1993 and returned to Cheyenne to be near his ailing mother.
Jim is survived by his daughters Christine and Stacey Ankney both of Denver, CO., son Jason Ankney of Charleston, SC., and brother John Ankney of Evanston, WY. HE was preceded in death by his parents
