On Tuesday, January 8, 2020, James Lewis Anderson, loving brother and father passed away at the age of 70, three weeks before his 71st birthday after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
James was born on January 31, 1949 in Manhattan New York to James an
d Alice (Wilson) Anderson. He studied in the New York City Public Education system and graduated from Central Commercial High School in
Manhattan. He served in the United States Air Force from May 16, 1968
to May 12, 1972, serving one tour in Vietnam. Jimmy spent a lot of his time working with kids. He worked with youngsters in Dobbs Ferry, New York and in the later years of his life, working with Foster Grandparent Program at Rossman Elementary School in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He worked with Marcie Burdett - first grade and Amy Ellison kindergarten classes. Jimmy’s work with them brought great joy and personal satisfaction to his heart. The countless hand paintings, drawings and letters written by the children he worked with showed their love and tremendous appreciation for him.
James is preceded in death by his father James L. Anderson, and his mother Alice O. Gabriel.
He is survived by his son Jamel, grandson James, three sisters; Linda Anderson, Debra Bernier (Raymond), JoAnn Gabriel, four brothers; Robert (Denise), Charles (Teresa), Oscar (Phyllis), William (Tonja) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
