Hugh (Butch) F. Cooper

September 16, 1941 — November 25, 2022

Hugh Francis Cooper, A.K.A Butch Cooper, was born on September 16, 1941, in Cheyenne to Hugh S. Cooper and Catherine Cooper. He had two brothers and three sisters. He attended Saint Mary’s High School and was a dedicated parishioner at St. Mary’s Cathedral for his entire life. In high school, he played football and was on the track team. Butch enlisted in the Navy in 1961 after graduating high school. He was a part of Operation Deep Freeze and wintered over in Antarctica in 1964. During his time in the Navy, he married Kathryn Rooney on October 31, 1964, at St. Mary’s Cathedral. After his time in the Navy, Butch and Kathryn settled in Cheyenne and had four children. Butch dedicated most of his working life to running the family business, Interstate Moving and Storage as an Allied Van Lines agent. He became an expert mover of all things and was proud of his ability move anything and everything. During this time, he became an integral part of his community and thoroughly enjoyed his time as a businessman. He later retired with his wife and lived the rest of his days at his home in Cheyenne. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and animal lover. He loved to tell stories about his days in Antarctica and his adventures moving people and things, especially MRI’s and safes, all over the region. He also loved fast cars, trucks, trains, and airplanes. He never met a stranger, was a total goofball, and you were sure to have a laugh when Butch was around.

Butch passed away at sunset on November 25, 2022, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by his loving family. Butch was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Cooper, his parents Catherine and Hugh S. Cooper, and sister Shirley Linnan. He is survived by his wife Kathryn Cooper, children Ann Margaret Burns, Patrick Cooper, and Eileen Zofcin, brothers John and Gary Cooper, sisters Sheila Sanchez and Shelly Cooper, seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Joey.
