Howard Allen Rhodes, age 83, passed away on January 20, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. We lost a man of deep integrity, faith, humor and honor.
He was born in Richmond, Virginia to Cecil and Helen Rhodes. He served in the Air Force, stationed at Lowery Air Force Base and in Greenland. After his service, he returned to college at VCU (BS), UW (MS), and CSU for his Ph.D. in Aquatic Entomology. He shared his research and love for aquatic entomology by taking children out to collect aquatic insects and learning about them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Diana, step-daughter Traci Rivinus, son-in-law Jonathan Rivinus, grandchildren Emily and Perri of Colorado, son David and grandson Hawthorne, Richmond, VA, sister Phyllis (Walter) TeStrake, Chesapeake Bay, VA, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. A son, Antony, and two nephews predeceased him.
Howard will be remembered for his sweet nature and the gentleman he was, for his intellect, sense of humor, quest for knowledge, his generous and giving nature. His Virginia roots grew a love for bluegrass music in him that remained in his heart. He was very loved and will be greatly missed.
