Howard Kissel, 90, of Cheyenne, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at his home.
He was born in Hartville, Wyoming on August 22, 1924. He graduated from Wheatland High School in 1942 and enlisted in the US Navy in 1943. He crossed most of the world’s seas as a member of the Naval Armed Guard aboard transport ships during the remainder of WWII. After his discharge from military service in 1946, he worked with his father on the farm for a time and then was employed by the US Bureau of Reclamation in 1948. He retired from the USBR in 1982 as Line Crew Supervisor in Cheyenne. His favorite memories were of working “hot” high-voltage power lines as a lineman in the ‘50’s. He had a long, enjoyable retirement during which he managed to outlive most of his friends.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson Weston Kissel, sisters Thelma Potter and Delora Woodard and brother Harry. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia; son Will (Cyndee) of Manchester, TN; daughter Julie (Jim) Reiling of Grove, OK; granddaughter Ragan (Jon) Osborne of Tullahoma, TN; sisters Maxine Koerwitz and Nora Olson of Wheatland; brother Donald of Portland, OR and many nieces and nephews. Services will be planned for a later date.
