Howard F. Heiduck, 90, of Cheyenne, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in Cheyenne.
He was born on December 16, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Howard joined the Merchant Marine Service in 1942 and while in the Mediterranean Theatre, his ship was attached to the U.S. 5th Army. During his service, he was awarded the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific Bars, as well as the Merchant Marine Award. In 1951, Howard joined the Wyoming Highway Patrol and was promoted to Sergeant in 1962. He was later promoted to Lieutenant and served as a chauffeur for Former Governor Stanley Hathaway. After serving 27 years with the Highway Patrol, he retired to work both as a Civil Deputy with the Laramie County Sheriff’s Department and as a Federal Court Security Officer for a total of 38 years in law enforcement. He most recently worked at Sam’s Club.
Howard was a life member of the Wyoming Peace Officers Association, American Legion, V.F.W., Masonic Lodge #29 in Torrington, Cheyenne Shrine Club, volunteered for the Torrington Fire Department, life member of the National Rifle Association, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Past President of the Wyoming Highway Patrol Association, Past Patron of the Order of Amaranth, and volunteered at the Cheyenne Botanic Garden. Howard was an avid Colorado Rockies fan, and loved to fish and hunt.
He is survived by a son, Donnie Heiduck (Heather O’Connor); two daughters, Kimmie Heiduck and Shawna Bouldin (Barry); a daughter-in-law, Patty Powers; and six grandchildren, Cain and Jordan Bouldin, Ashley and Thomas Wolf (Tabetha), Sean O’Connor, and Chelsie Olsen.
Howard was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian “Sis” Heiduck; his companion, Betty Powers; a son, Mike Powers; a brother, Donald Heiduck; and his parents, Frederick and Lena (Skubovias) Heiduck.
Timeless Memories services will be Tuesday, 11:00 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Elizabeth Wilson officiating.
Cremation will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
