Hank Sohl, 67, of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, due to complications of heart valve replacement surgery.
Hank was born November 19, 1957, to Henry G. Sohl Sr. and June M. (Claasen) Sohl at Norfolk, Nebraska. He was baptized by his Grandfather Rev. Ezra H. Sohl. Hank joined 6 siblings; Keith D, Robert H, Phyllis J, Annita J, Mary L and Mark T. They all welcomed their “Baby Brother” a title he later hated as he grew to stand 6’ 4” tall, towering over his siblings, but standing shoulder to shoulder with brother Mark. He showed us all that he wasn’t the baby! He attended elementary school in David City, Ne and graduated from Benedict, NE high school in 1976.
On December 14, 1985, he married Bonnie J. Frost in Columbus, NE. Together they attended Holding Forth the Word of Life Ministries, taking them on numerous missionary trips to Samana, Dominican Republic. To this union, a daughter Kristen C. was born in 1991, she was his pride and joy. After his granddaughters were born, they quickly became everything he lived for, and they were the light of his world. He was an affectionate grandfather, constantly spoiling them. He often mentioned that his son-in-law Zach was the best thing to happen to his daughter, he thought the world of him. This is after he threatened Zach, while shooting guns, with the “10 rules to dating my daughter”.
He worked in construction his entire adult life; after moving to Cheyenne, he founded Castle Builders. His claim to fame was his 8 second ride on Kristens horse, which earned him a huge belt buckle, [courtesy of his daughter] and a vacation to the ICU. His motorcycle was his favorite way to spend a weekend thinking he was Evel Knievel, leading to the motorcycle accident landing him in the ICU for months. His daughter suggested that he find new hobbies.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Father in 1975, Mother in 2010, brothers Keith in 1999, George in 1948, Bob in 2023 and Mark in 2020. He is survived by his daughter Kristen Rasch, son-in-law Zach and granddaughters Ryleigh and Saige; and numerous nieces and nephews. His is also survived by his three older sisters whom he humorously referred to as “the ones who changed my poopies”. Phyllis Bartholomew Columbus, NE Annita Tripple Cheyenne WY, Mary Sohl Linwood, NE and his ex-wife and friend Bonnie Sohl of Cheyenne, WY. He also leaves many friends and acquaintances who will remember him for his saucy, quick-witted humor, his great story telling, his passion for Jesus and for being the “voice of reason”.
His body will rest here on earth, but his Spirit is already in heaven with Jesus. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
