Helen H. Schmechel, 100, of Cheyenne, died peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Life Care Center.
She was born January 16, 1914 in Gordon, Nebraska to Charles and Eva (Ross) Potts. Following high school, Helen worked for the County Extension office in Rushville, Nebraska and then moved to the County Extension office in Torrington, Wyoming. Helen married Frederick E. (Fritz) Schmechel on March 3, 1941 in Gering, Nebraska. Her life’s efforts were for her family and her much-enjoyed secretarial jobs. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crosswords.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Schmechel of Rocklin, California, John G. (Neva) Schmechel of Cheyenne; daughter, Mary M. Paxson of Cheyenne; three grandchildren, Beth (Bryan) Ward of Laramie, Charles R. Schmechel of Cheyenne and Frederick J. Schmechel of Laramie; three great grandchildren, Manon, Tess and Asti Ward of Laramie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Shirley M. Krotz.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Internment is at Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.
