Helen Rose Johnson

March 6, 1929 — October 19, 2015

Helen Rose (Gibson) Johnson, born March 6, 1929, was the eldest daughter of Douglas and Beatrice Gibson. Helen grew up in Buffalo, Wyoming. While attending high school, she was active in Job’s Daughters, music, and many social events. She graduated from Buffalo High school in 1947. After graduation, she attended Hastings University, majoring in music. She transferred to Michael Reese Nursing School in Chicago, where she graduated with her RN degree in June of 1953. On April 9, 1954, she married Carl Eugene Johnson. They moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, to start their family and careers. Helen practiced nursing at Dr. Joder’s Family Practice, DePaul and Memorial Hospital, and did home health care.
Helen was an active member of First Baptist Church for over six decades serving in many capacities including deaconess, Sunday School teacher, vocal and hand bell choirs, and on many committees. She was a member of Gideon’s International and served on the board for Bethany Christian Services. Helen had many interests including travel, crafts, dance, and attending grandchildren’s functions.
Helen is survived by four sons: Doug (Sheri), Ken (Sarah) all of Cheyenne; Chris (Terri) of Henderson, Nevada; and Jeff of Everet, Washington (Michelle of Penn Valley, California). Nine wonderful grandchildren: Brandy (Trent) Schroeder and Erin Johnson of Lake Stevens, Washington; Briana (Jeremiah) Cramer of Johnstown, Colorado; Krista (Tim) Cozad, Amanda Johnson, Gabrielle Johnson and Trinity Johnson of Cheyenne; Hannah and Ryan Johnson of Henderson, Nevada. She is also survived by six adorable great grandchildren: Lilyanna and Greyson of Washington; Baizelle and Gunner Cozad of Cheyenne; Maisy and Mirabelle Cramer of Johnston, CO. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Alvin Johnson, of Buffalo, Wyoming, and his children Cathy (Dan) Hedrick of Cheyenne, and Mike and (Ruth) Johnson of Casper.
Helen passed away on October 19, 2015 at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 23, at First Baptist Church.
