(Helen) Ann Hegy Buchanan, 88, passed away on September 9, 2014 in Cheyenne.
She was born on January 2, 1926, the youngest of seven children to Peter and Anna (Reitzner) Hegy in Hartford, Wisconsin.
Ann attended Hartford High School , University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin, and East Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
She married Philip Buchanan on August 28, 1948 in Hartford, and they lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 1948 to 1957 except for one year in Menomonie Falls, where her husband was the editor of the Menomonie Falls News.
In 1957, they moved to Platteville, Wisconsin, where her husband began his duties at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Ann was past president of the Faculty Wives, active in the bloodmobile, library foundation, hospital auxiliary and P.E.O., as well as being a real estate broker for 30 years. She bought a number of run down properties and enjoyed giving them new life. She was an active gardener and enjoyed the out of doors, at one time being the junior tennis champion of Washington County, Wisconsin. She also enjoyed classical music and traveling.
After retirement Ann and Phil spent their winters in Green Valley, Arizona, where she enjoyed the pleasures of hiking, square dancing, learning oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting, basket weaving, and hand building with clay.
She is survived by three children, Pam Phelan of Zion, Illinois, David Buchanan (Sujin) of Cheyenne, and Cheryl Spofford (Steve) of Spring Green, Wisconsin; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Buchanan in August of 2000; and a son, Peter in April of 2000.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
