Hazel Johnson passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 2, 2014 at Davis Hospice House.
Hazel Margaret Cumings was born to Lloyd Cumings and Hazel Margaret Shaffer on January 20, 1930 in Winterset, Iowa. After the death of her mother, Lloyd married LaVere Youmans. LaVere raised Hazel as her own child.
Hazel graduated from Winterset High School in 1948.
Hazel worked as a waitress for several years in Des Moines, Iowa where she met the love of her life, Milo Johnson. She and Milo were married on December 9, 1960 in Winterset, Iowa.
In 1974 Milo's job took them to Cheyenne, Wyoming where Hazel worked for Gator Industries for 20 plus years.
Hazel was a member of VFW Post 1881 ladies auxiliary in Cheyenne. She spent many hours running the VFW flea markets with her dear friend, Connie Simmers. She also collected and cut cancelled stamps for the Stamps for the Wounded, and attended many naturalization ceremonies for new citizens. She enjoyed baseball, watching Nascar, and spent many Saturday nights at the local racetrack.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a son, Chet.
Survivors include her children, Chris (Dave) Klein of Iowa; Sandy (Garry Uran) Mangus of Nevada, and Howard (Susan) Johnson of Cheyenne; two brothers, Karl Cumings of Arkansas, Robert (Rosemond) Cumings; a sister Pam (Ken) Madison of Iowa; grandchildren, Michael (Mary) Klein, Mila (Tony) Schwarz, Christopher (Darla) Allen, Jonathan (Ashley) Allen, Tara Joy, Christopher Penny, Harlee (John) Johnson; great grandchildren, Breanna and Gavin Klein, Trenton, Brooklyn and Audrey Allen, and baby boy Allen due in May.
Services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Interment will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Memorial Contributions may be made in Hazel’s name to Davis Hospice Center.
