Harry Herbert Schlager Sr.
June 16, 1928 — January 18, 2020
Harry H. Schlager, 91, of Cheyenne, passed away January 18, 2020 at Davis Hospice Center.
Harry was born on June 16, 1928 in Mitchell, NE, son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Deines) Schlager, the fourteenth of seventeen children. He grew up and attended school in Hawk Springs, WY where his family were hardworking sugar beet farmers.
Harry entered the Army/Air Force in 1947 with basic training at the Army Air Forces Military Training Center, San Antonio, TX. He was then sent to Spokane Air Army Depot in Washington and served with both the 92nd and 98th Bomb Groups. He was promoted to cook, assigned to the In-flight kitchen.
He met Lorraine Lebsack in Yoder, WY and they were later married in Torrington in 1952 where they raised two sons. He was a skilled mechanic and became the supervisor of the Bus Garage for the Torrington Schools. He was also an avid gardener, enjoyed polka dancing and played the harmonica. He was also a member of the American Legion, Masons and Shriners.
Harry is survived by his son Harry H. Schlager, Jr. of North Hills, CA; Granddaughter Brittany Schlager and her Mother Gaylene of Torrington, WY; sister Wilma Ward of Puyallup, WA; brothers William Schlager of Torrington, WY, and Lawrence Schlager (Jenette) of Aurora,CO and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife Lorraine Schlager; son Mark C. Schlager; eight brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, January 25 at Wiederspahn/Radomsky Chapel in Cheyenne, WY with military honors.
