Glenna Gakle Hammer, 91, of Cheyenne, died Monday, April 2, 2018 at Life Care Center.
She was born November 8, 1926 in Sabetha, Kansas, to Henry and Helen (Stowell) Gakle. She had lived in Cheyenne since 1951, when her husband was assigned to Francis E. Warren Air Force Base.
She taught school in Columbus, Nebraska prior to her marriage in 1950. She was a substitute teacher for LCSD1 for a number of years and then secretary for the Division of Business at Laramie County Community College for 11 years before her retirement in 1986. After retirement she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Cancer Society, Cheyenne Animal Shelter and at the Hospital.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1953. She was a former member of the Eastern Star, American Business Women’s Association, Beta Sigma Phi, and Cheyenne Genealogical Society.
Survivors include her husband, Darrell Hammer, son Thomas (Teri) Hammer; granddaughter, Stephanie Duzik, grandson, Patrick (Johanna) Duzik; great-grandchildren, Tommi Honaker, Ryleigh Duzik, Blake Duzik, Alice Duzik and Angel Farina.
She was preceded in death by a son Michael, her parents; three brothers, Gordon, Paul and Fred Gakle and granddaughter, Tandy Duzik.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 8:00pm at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel and Thursday from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm.
Services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Rev. Mark Marston will officiate. Interment will follow at Beth El Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or Meals on Wheels.
