Gilbert Lara, 84, of Cheyenne died August 31 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
He was born August 10, 1933 in Gary, Indiana and had lived in Cheyenne most of his life.
Gilbert served in the United States Army. He was a Spanish teacher at Johnson Jr. High and a car salesman for Dinneens. “His car sales supported his teaching habit.”
He enjoyed mowing his lawn, golfing, mall walking and was a car enthusiast.
Gilbert is survived by his children, Gilda Lara; Vicky Haberkorn, Todd Lara, and Greg (Tammy) Lara and their mother, MaRu; siblings, Mary DeSilva, Maria Lara, Margaret Lucero, Isabel Lara, Richard Lara, and Cristina Wenzl; four grandchildren, Hayes D. Merritt, Danette P. Lara, Lara L. Ratterree, and Tyler Craig-Haberkorn; and three great-grandchildren, Ielea Conroy-Lara, Teegun Lara, and soon to arrive, Auden MaRu Merritt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus Lara and Victoria Lara Carrillo; siblings, Jan Schmit and Bobby Lara and two grandchildren, Sara Anne-Marie “Sammy” Haberkorn and Truman Merritt, whom he’s watching over!
Life Commemoration Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
