Gerald Dean Federer, 77, of Cheyenne, died April 28, 2018 at Cheyenne Healthcare Center following hip surgery and a long battle with dementia.
He was born Jul¬y 28, 1940 to Helen Ames Federer and Clarence Federer.
He attended country school until junior high. He graduated from Cheyenne High School and the University of Wyoming with a B.S. in animal science.
Jerry worked for 30 years for the Bureau of Land Management as the Wyoming State Range Specialist. He was instrumental in the publication of the “State of the Public Range,” and developed the “Range Land Stewardship Award” and was the first BLM employee to receive this award.
The Federer Ranch, which his grandparents homesteaded, was very important to him. He was proud of his Angus cows and Corriedale sheep.
He is survived by his wife Marcia, children Grady (Mark) and Gina Vining (Bryan), 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and sister, Cathy Wagner (Wendell).
Life Commemoration services will be Friday, 2:00 p.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
