George Weidenbach peacefully passed away April 17th in Cheyenne after battling Parkinson’s disease for many years. He was 95.
George was born in 1927 in Meadville, PA to Nicholas and Hazel. He was the oldest of five children. His father was a great German chef, and the family made the move out west during George’s childhood. After living in Tucson, AZ and Grand Junction, CO, they landed in Cheyenne where his parents ran the Cheyenne Country Club and where George graduated from Cheyenne High. After high school, George started working as a lineman for the Mountain Bell Telephone Company. While working for the phone company, he met Betty in Wheatland, WY through a mutual friend that set them up on a blind date. They were later married in June 1950. They settled in Cheyenne, where they raised their four children.
In the early 80s, George retired from the telephone company, where he had worked his way up to one of the district managers. In his retirement, George enjoyed his daily, outdoor walks, golfing, hunting/fishing, and watching or listening to Wyoming Cowboys basketball and football games.
George is survived by his wife of almost 73 years, Betty; sisters, Joan and Marilyn; sons, Nick (Karen), Mike (Lynn), and Joe; daughter, Georganne (Cliff); granddaughters, Kelly (Marshall) and Kristi (Jesse); and great-grandson, Nicholas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mark; sister, Terry; daughter-in-law, Kathy, and great-grandson, Julian.
A private celebration of life has been planned by his family for this summer.
The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care given by the friendly staff at Life Care Center of Cheyenne.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter or Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative.
