Franklin Phillipp Favero, Sr.

March 4, 1933 — July 9, 2016

Franklin Phillipp Favero, Sr. was born March 4, 1933 in Plattsburgh, New York, where he attended school and met his first and only love Mary J. Puryea. After enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving three years in Germany, he discharged in April 1953. Upon his separation from the Army, he immediately renewed his pursuit of Mary and they were married in June 1954.
At Mary’s urging, Frank reenlisted in the Army, where he served with distinction until his retirement from Ft. Hood, Texas in September 1978. During his service, he completed two tours in Vietnam and was a bronze star recipient. He also served additional tours in Germany, where he and Mary raised their family off base immersed in the German culture.
After leaving the Army, Frank and Mary owned and operated several businesses in Texas. Frank also worked as a food service supervisor for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the Darrington and Huntsville Units. As an avid hunter and fisherman, Frank often supplied employee functions with fish for fish fries and wild game for barbeques.
In 2005, both Frank and Mary fully retired and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they lived with their oldest daughter Mary L. Lampert and her husband Bob. As their health deteriorated, Mary gladly became their full time caretaker. In retirement, Frank continued to hunt, fish and garden as his health permitted, making a salmon fishing journey to Alaska with his brother Arlen and other family in May 2016 and onto Warren Air Force Base for a final sentimental journey fishing trip on July 2nd.
Frank was preceded in death by Mary his wife of 60 years who was eagerly awaiting their reunion. Frank is survived by three children, Franklin P. Favero, Jr. (wife Cheryl) of Cheyenne, Mary L. Lampert (husband Bob) of Cheyenne, and Sandra A. Garrow (husband Thomas) of Riverside, Texas, as well as 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. He is also survived by four siblings (Arlen, Marie, Nancy and Dorothy) and numerous extended family.
Frank was a man of strong faith and a devoted member of the United Church of God in Loveland, Colorado. He also belonged to the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, VFW, and Sunrise Lions.
Frank asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the local Lions organization, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, or Davis Hospice Center. He also asked his family to express a special thank you to Dr. Garcia, Jean McDougall and staff, and Dr. Mears and staff for all their help and support over the years and to Davis Hospice Center and his hospice nurse Dave for their assistance in his final days.
A memorial service will be held at the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes on Saturday July 23, 2016 at 3:00 PM.
