Fern D. Salas (Baker), a beloved member of her community and family, passed away on January 6, 2025, in Great Falls, Montana at her daughter's home, at the age of 92. Born on September 5, 1932, in Leon, Iowa, Fern lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service.
Fern is remembered for her unwavering commitment to her career as a laundry attendant at the hospital, where her hard work and attention to detail were appreciated by many. She was also a long-time member of Cheyenne Brethren Church, where she fostered friendships and connections that enriched her life and the lives of those around her. Her faith was central to her identity and influenced all that she did.
In addition to her professional contributions, Fern was a vibrant part of her community, participating in a bowling league that showcased her competitive spirit and love for fun. She cherished her time spent with family, which was her greatest joy, creating lasting memories that will be treasured for generations.
Fern is survived by her four children: Vickie Hahn (Chris), Harold Ray (Char), Donna Johnson, and Roy Ray (Paula), along with her stepson Pete Salas Jr. She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Salas, with whom she shared 48 wonderful years, and her parents Stephen Lawrence Baker and Victoria Ann Baker. Fern's warm spirit and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.
