Everett Ralph Rhodes

July 31, 1921 — April 3, 2019

Everett Ralph Rhodes was 97 years old when he died peacefully on April 3 in Billings, Montana, where he had been living for the last three years.

Everett was born at home on July 31, 1921 to Arthur E. and Mamie Ethel Rhodes in Carpenter, Wyoming. Carpenter remained in his heart all of his life. He was the middle child of 7 children, all of whom preceded him in death. Everett proudly served in the US Navy in World War II. He and Bert were married at the historic Bruton Parrish Church in Williamsburg, Virginia, on September 30, 1945.

Everett worked for the Union Pacific Rail Road before joining the Navy. He worked for the Laramie County school district and was Superintendent of Grounds and Buildings at Laramie County Community College for 14 years. One of LCCC’s first employees, he retired in 1983.

After retiring, Everett took up woodworking and had more time to follow his favorite baseball teams, the Yankees and the Colorado Rockies. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, delivering meals for many years. Everett was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Cheyenne and he was a member of the Masons for over 50 years. In 2010 he was honored and fortunate to take the Wyoming Proud Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit the WWII Memorial.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bert, son Tom Rhodes, granddaughter Kymberly Byron and his second wife, June Eckehart. He is survived by his daughter, Shari Florence (Kent) and son Jerry Rhodes, granddaughter Alisha Tuss (Dustin) and great-grandchildren Sophia and Ryder Tuss, great-grandsons Hayden and Spencer Byron, and June's children Susan (Harold) McCullan and Carolyn (John) Clark.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Meals on Wheels or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family would like to thank Traci, McKenzie, Lydia, Kim, the care team and nursing staff at Tendernest, the Veterans Administration Home Based Primary Care and Stillwater Hospice, of Billings, Montana.

A celebration of Everett’s life will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday April 16 at First Christian Church with Rev. Rodger McDaniel officiating.
