Evelyn Jane Hunter

August 10, 1928 — August 26, 2022

Evelyn Jane Hunter, 94, was born in Lodge Grass, Montana on August 10, 1928, to Charles and Inza Hopper. She entered Heaven’s gates peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2022, at her home in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Evelyn attended schools in Wyola and Lodge Grass, Montana until her sophomore year, when the family moved to Billings, Montana. She graduated from Billings Senior High in May 1946. She met and married William “Bill” Edward Hunter in September 1953. Evelyn had an amazing career of 33 years with Marathon Oil Company as a legal secretary, retiring in 1986. She and Bill spent many winters of their retirement in Quartzite, Arizona returning to Wyoming for the summer months. Evelyn moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 2009.
During her life, Evelyn was a loving, dedicated mother to her children and their activities. She was fully involved as a leader for her daughter, Linda’s 4-H group. She was her son Joe’s greatest fan when he was participating in all sports. Evelyn had many interests which included camping, fishing, cross-stitching, knitting, rock hunting, and playing the guitar. Evelyn never met a stranger, as she was eager to visit with and meet new people. She was ready to have fun and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, William “Bill” Hunter; her parents, Charles and Inza Hopper; brother, Boyd Hopper; and her sister, Phyllis Hopper Jacobs.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Linda, and her husband Dick Gosselin (Quartzite, Arizona); her son, Joe Hunter and his wife Tina (Cheyenne, Wyoming); her brother, Dale Hopper and his wife Sharon (O’Brien, Oregon); five grandchildren, Jason Wisser (Denver, Colorado), Michael Fostmeier (Casper, Wyoming), Lynse Fostmeier (Cheyenne, Wyoming) Travis Hunter and his fiancé Brittney Ley (Cheyenne, Wyoming), and Janie Hunter (Princeton, Texas); and three great-grandchildren, Kaydence Grauberger-Hunter, Victoria Hunter, and Roman Hunter.
A Celebration of Life will be Friday, September 9, 2022, 4:00 p.m., at the home of Dorothy Hunter, 3080 East 18th Street, Casper, Wyoming 82609.
