Ernie M. Evans

February 18, 1920 — April 11, 2014

Ernie M. Evans, 94, of Cheyenne, died on Friday, April 11, 2014 in Cheyenne.

He was born on the family farm on the Missouri River near Lineville, Iowa on February 18, 1920.  The Evans family moved to the Brisbine Place northeast of Cheyenne in the fall of 1922.  The Evans’ continued to live in various places north of Cheyenne.

Ernie was an extraordinary husband, father, uncle, and grandparent who exemplified the values of his time when a handshake and a man’s word were his honor.  No man was more honorable.  He loved his sweetheart of 70 years and his family and friends with unrestrained joy.  His time in the service working on the B-25 during WWII was a source of great pride.  He had the pleasure of revisiting his time working on the B-25 with a replica that visited Cheyenne last year.  He was flown to Washington, D.C. on the Honor Flight to view the National WWII Memorial.  All of his four brothers served in the military.  He loved the outdoors and gardening was his favorite pastime.  Nothing gave him more pleasure than spending time with his adoring family.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Teichert) Evans, whom he married on January 13, 1944 in Cheyenne; two sons, Glen Evans (Janice) and Paul Evans (Diane); a daughter, Dianne Knobel (Gary); a sister, Juanita Pennington; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Services will be Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.

Pallbearers are Rhett Evans, Jorey Howell, Glen Knobel, Casey Kawaguchi, Dusty Evans, and Scott Thomas.

Honorary pallbearer is Ross Howell.

Interment will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Friends who wish may contribute to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or The Wounded Warriors.
