Ernest E. Davis, 94, died November 29, 2014 at Life Care Center of Cheyenne.
He was born December 26, 1919 in St. Louis, MO. to Ernest H. Davis and Lily Sar Davis. They later moved to Easton, PA. where he grew up. He graduated from Easton High School in 1938, and worked for Western Union, delivering telegrams, before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps on June 27, 1940. Trained as a mechanic, he was stationed at Howard Field in the Panama Canal Zone for the duration of World War II, and was honorably discharged at Lowry Field, Denver, in November 1945.
He moved to Cheyenne in 1946, and worked for United Airlines. He joined the Wyoming Air National Guard in June, 1947. He loved his work, and the many friends with whom he shared a love of aviation. He retired from the Wyoming Air National Guard in December 1979.
He married Lois Zumbo on May 30, 1983, and during their retirement enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends, and taking numerous cruises. He also gave generously of his time, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, delivering meals for over 30 years.
He is survived by his sons Dennis Davis of Cheyenne, and Donald Davis of Hansville, WA; and by step-children Richard Zumbo of Casper, and Robert Zumbo, Anthony Zumbo, Donald Zumbo, Janice O’Grady, Lori Zumbo and Allison Hunt, all of Cheyenne, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, on April 29, 2014, and step-son Dino Zumbo on March 21, 2007.
Commemoration of life will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel with Rev. Sandi Dillon officiating. Interment of his urn to follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
